Our Initiative

Girls Loving Ourselves Worldwide

Girls Loving Ourselves Worldwide (GLOW) is a Let Our Voices Echo (LOVE) Project - Syracuse - Initiative.  Every girl in this world deserves to know and understand that they are valued and valuable.

With a current focus on black and brown girls, grades 6 - 11, the GLOW Initiative will engage a minimum of 100 girls worldwide in evidence-based strategies that align with the five inter-related competencies of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework. The participants will commit to engaging in a yearlong program that will utilize innovative, effective, fun and engaging strategies to promote:

1. Self- Love (CASEL: Self-awareness, Self-management and Responsible decision-making)

2. Sisterhood (CASEL: Relationship skills and Social awareness)

3. Service (CASEL: Social awareness and Responsible decision-making)

4. Suitable Images in Media (CASEL: Self-awareness and Responsible decision-making).

The first group of girls will meet virtually four times over the next year (once per quarter) and will be considered Cohort 1 of the GLOW Initiative. They will: (1) commit to engaging in age-appropriate, culturally relevant self-development activities and training, (2) participate in leadership development,  relationship and team building training, (3) work collectively to develop service projects that impact their respective communities, and (4) develop media campaigns and materials that promote positive images of black and brown girls worldwide.
